The Emerging Homosexual Agenda

By Doug Carlson - Sep 22, 2009

With the nation’s eye zeroed in on health care reform, liberal lawmakers are seizing the moment to move forward another one of their top priorities: the homosexual agenda.

The first of two recent maneuvers is a direct assault on marriage. Last week, Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) introduced legislation that would overturn the Defense of Marriage Act, commonly known as DOMA, which defines marriage for federal purposes as between a man and a woman and prohibits the federal government from forcing same-sex “marriage” upon states. Under Rep. Nadler’s Respect for Marriage Act (H.R. 3567), the DOMA wall—erected 13 years ago with veto-proof majorities in Congress and President Clinton’s approval—would be leveled. The bill might better be called the Disrespect for Marriage Act.

Consider the possible plight of a state like Mississippi. Without DOMA, the Magnolia State could be required to grant full marital recognition to a same-sex couple legally “married” in Massachusetts that decides to move their residency to the state. Never mind that, in 2004, 86 percent of Mississippi voters passed an amendment to their state constitution defining marriage as only between one man and one woman. In fact, all 50 states—including the 29 others like Mississippi that have passed state constitutional amendments on traditional marriage—could find themselves with Mississippi’s misfortune.

The push for homosexual “rights” broadens further this week. On Sept. 23, the House Education and Labor Committee will hold a hearing on the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, or ENDA (H.R. 3017). This innocuously titled bill could force employers to hire homosexuals and individuals who claim any one of some 30 other sexual orientations—too perverse to describe here—listed in the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, taking away employers’ right of conscience to hire those who share their mission and values. Fearing lawsuits from homosexual employees, employers also could be compelled to force employees to remove Bibles from their desks or even Scripture verses from office cubicle walls. Workplace tension would only ensue.

Proponents of the bill, sponsored by openly homosexual Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA), are trying to allay concerns of the religious community by exempting churches and parachurch organizations. But this olive branch is in fact a bitter fruit. Many private schools and Christian bookstores and child care facilities, for example, would receive no such protections.

The undercurrent of the homosexual agenda is strengthening. Both the House and Senate have passed hate crimes bills that would elevate homosexuals to a special status, while possibly criminalizing speech against homosexuality. The liberal majorities in Congress also support DOMA’s repeal and ENDA’s approval. And they have an ally in President Obama, who supports the trio of pro-homosexual bills and has called DOMA “discriminatory,” saying “it’s time we overturned it,” and promised to “place the weight of my administration” behind ENDA.

As health care reform continues to consume most of the oxygen on Capitol Hill, we must remain vigilant to guard against the emerging attempts to undermine marriage and normalize homosexuality.

If you agree, please tell your congressman to oppose the Respect for Marriage Act (H.R. 3567) and the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (H.R. 3017).
