Harry Reid’s Christmas Gift of Health Care Reform

With Christmas just days away, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has not kept quiet about his gift to the American people—sweeping health care reform. Yet tucked inside this package, many of its contents tightly concealed until last Saturday in a 383-page amendment, are unwelcome offerings like $518 billion in new taxes, nearly a half-trillion-dollar cut to Medicare, and most disturbingly, mandates for federal funding of abortion, all wrapped in strong government control that could lead to rationing of care. A Failure in Courage

Basic economic principles teach that achieving sound economic policy requires careful consideration of two expected outcomes: costs and benefits. A majority in Congress has just opted to disregard both.

Rick Warren hosts presidential forum Sat. night

Pastor Rick Warren, pastor of Saddleback church in California, will be interviewing McCain and Obama tomorrow night (8/16). 

Warren says “[t]he leader who says, ‘I’m going to take my worldview and just put it on the shelf when I make decisions,’ is either an idiot or they’re lying, because you can’t do it . . . [a]ll of your decisions are based on what you value, what you believe in life. And so I think it’s important to find out what these guys really believe.”
