The Obama administration’s guidelines for federal funding of stem cell research that results in the destruction of human embryos have been challenged in court, and a lawyer behind the suit says he thinks its “chances are very good.”

The National Institutes of Health’s decision to fund embryonic stem cell research is “unethical, scientifically unnecessary, fiscally irresponsible and counterproductive,” opponents said in their complaint filed Aug. 19 in District of Columbia federal court.

Their suit contends the guidelines violate a 13-year-old congressional ban on funds for research that destroys embryos. It also… Read Full Article

Is There A Doctor In The House?

Tuesday, August 18, 2009

By Jimmy Porter

H. R. 3200, a massive health care reform bill, is being debated in Congress and in all other media outlets. Most everyone agrees that health care reform is needed because of the numbers uninsured along with spiraling costs.  But the current proposal raises as many questions and fears as it provides answers and solutions.  What does H.R. 3200 say about availability of quality health care, doctor-patient relationships, abortion, end of life issues, single payer plan, and costs in additional taxes?

The Southern Baptist Ethics and Religious Commission has published an analysis of the most distressing aspects of the… Read Full Article

Analysis of Health Care Reform Bill

By Tom Strode

DOWNLOAD THE HEALTH CARE REFORM ANALYSIS HERE

The health-care reform bill making its way through the U.S. House of Representatives “is extremely dangerous legislation to the health and wellbeing of most Americans” for a variety of reasons, the Southern Baptist Convention’s ethics entity says.

The proposal — America’s Affordable Health Choices Act, H.R. 3200 — would endanger the lives of the unborn and elderly, increase taxes and health-care costs, and extend government’s reach into Americans’ private lives, according to an analysis by the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC).

Healthcare Reform Mandates

Monday, July 20, 2009

The President and the majority leadership in Congress are still determined to include a public health insurance option in the healthcare reform plan.  Developments last week revealed another feature about the dangerous nature of this plan. Forcing business to provide healthcare for employees and mandating abortion as a service of public healthcare.

The ERLC, the public policy arm of the Southern Baptist Convention in D.C., reports the following information on these “healthcare reform” mandates:

The Money Mandate

Under this mandate individuals are fined $1,000 under the Senate plan if they don’t have coverage. Business… Read Full Article

Obama and Gore:  The CO2 Global Warming Hoax

Sunday, July 12, 2009

Rob Chambers

People can look back over their lifetime and recall extreme weather conditions like floods, ice storms, tornados, tsunamis, and hurricanes.  Are these weather conditions natural or human induced?  There are two primary theories used to explain extreme changes in climate.

The first theory indicates humans are responsible for global warming because of man’s use of fossil fuels for energy.  This theory, having been disproven for some time now, continues to fuel the global warming agenda of both the Obama administration and Al Gore.

Such political forces continue to use this disproven theory to motivate the public… Read Full Article

If this bill that the U.S. Senate will soon vote on passes, then you can expect to see your energy bills skyrocket.  It has been said that this “cap-and-tax” legislation will cause electricity rates to increase 90% by 2035.

The supposed reason for such a tax hike is to reduce Global Warming or Climate Change.  Those who support a “cap-and-tax” policy resulting in huge energy tax hikes… Read Full Article

‘Cap-and-Tax’ Fiasco

Wednesday, July 01, 2009

by Doug Carlson

Basic economic principles teach that achieving sound economic policy requires careful consideration of two expected outcomes: costs and benefits. A majority in Congress has just opted to disregard both.

In a narrow 219-212 vote, the House of Representatives has approved what many call the largest tax increase in American history—all in what many experts view as a futile attempt to control the world’s thermostat. The Waxman-Markey cap-and-trade bill, which restricts industries to specified amounts of greenhouse gases and other carbon emissions they can discharge, garnered support from 211 Democrats and eight Republicans. The damage was done Friday night,… Read Full Article

The radical homosexual agenda and the threat to religious liberty

Tuesday, June 02, 2009

By Barrett Duke

May 27, 2009

WASHINGTON—People of faith are on a collision course with the radical homosexual agenda. It is inevitable. In order for the radical homosexual agenda to be fully implemented, people of faith are going to have to be silenced and marginalized. The radical homosexual community will have to violate our religious liberty and our consciences in order to achieve this.

At this very moment, three issues move us closer to what I believe is an eventual clash. These issues affect our religious liberty in unique and distressing ways. I will mention two related to each.… Read Full Article

Tell Senators to Protect Children from Tobacco Use

By Richard Land

Jun 1, 2009

Dear Friends:

The power to save untold thousands of lives from experiencing disease and premature death from tobacco use is within reach.

The Senate is expected to vote this week on a bill to provide oversight on the tobacco industry. Currently, Big Tobacco packages and promotes its products with virtually no meaningful checks. This results in some 400,000 tobacco-related deaths each year. And much of the industry’s $13 billion in annual marketing is directed at children to allure new consumers to replace dying ones. This should not be permitted to continue.… Read Full Article

Justice Sotomayor?—More for some, less for others?

(Click this link for more information about nominee Sotomayor)

President Obama, while a presidential candidate, gave a very important speech (March 18, 2008) on race in America. In that speech he said that “Most working- and middle-class white Americans don’t feel that they have been particularly privileged by their race…So when they…hear that an African-American is getting an advantage in landing a good job or a spot in a good college because of an injustice that they themselves never committed…resentment builds over time.”

Those were brave and important words for then-Senator Obama to… Read Full Article

The U.S. House of Representatives has easily approved hate crimes protections for homosexuals and transgendered individuals that opponents believe could seriously hinder religious freedom.

The House voted 249-175 for the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act, which would add “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” to the current categories — such as race, religion and national origin — protected from hate crimes. “Sexual orientation” includes homosexuality, while “gender identity,” or transgendered status, takes in transsexuals and cross-dressers.

Legislation to extend hate crimes protections to homosexuals and transgendered individuals could severely restrict religious freedom, foes of the proposal said April 28 as they sought to rally opposition.

Members of the House of Representatives and leaders of evangelical Christian and conservative organizations, including the Southern Baptist Convention’s ethics entity, warned about the bill’s impact at a Capitol Hill news conference on the eve of the measure’s consideration in the House. The Democratic leadership was expected to bring the Local… Read Full Article

Parent-child relationship further weakened with court order

Tuesday, April 28, 2009

Richard Land

The decision by U.S. District Court Judge Edward Korman of New York to order the FDA to make Plan B, post-intercourse contraceptives available to 17-year-old girls without a prescription from their doctor is one more example of the government believing it has the right to interpose itself between parents and their children. It is shameful that the Obama administration has decided it will not appeal this terrible federal court decision.

Allowing drugs with such powerful physiological and emotional effects to be sold over the counter to adults without a prescription, as has been the case since 2005, has… Read Full Article
